You use a lunge line while lunging your horse and pony. Lunging is a way of training in which your horse and pony are trained on a circle without a load, so without a rider. Lunging is a nice change from riding or building up the young horse's condition or a horse that has stood still for a long time.
A lunging line is a long line with a sturdy clip closure and a hand loop on the other side. Double lunging lines are also available. A double lunge line has two clip closures at the ends and no hand loop. You attach the clips to the bit, the outer rings of the cavesson, or an intermediate piece. The external line goes behind the horse's back legs, just above the heel.
While lunging, you can view your horse from a distance, and you can see what his difficult side or easier side is. This can be the same as while driving or not. Lunging provides a lot of information about the horse's natural movement.
A lunging line is used with a cavesson or bridle with a bit. The lunge line is attached to the middle ring of the cavesson or the bit. There are also special spacers to use if you want to lunge with a bitless bridle or a bit. There are two buckles on the intermediate piece that you attach to the bit or the bitless bridle. In the middle of the intermediate piece is a ring to which you attach the lunge line.
Lunge lines are available in different lengths, materials, brands, and colors. The shortest lunge line in our range is 6 meters. This is mainly used in the Academic and Classical art of riding for lunging at a shorter distance from the longueur. The longest is a double lunge line or long rein and is 18 meters long.
